A steady unrelenting ski resort climb that’s fast making a name for its self as a critical mountaintop finish in the Tour de France the same way l’Alpe d’Huez has. The climb starts just on the edge of Guillestre at about the same spot the I’zoard starts its extended version if heading to Briancon. It then takes you at a fairly steady rate up through some small communes into a fairly thickly forested climb that will zigzag its way to the ski resort via a series of hairpin bends that are all marked by images of well-known cyclists and character’s from the French cycling scene. After passing the official summit marker inside the Risoul resort we descend all the way back. Look out for some wonderfully typical Carl Zeiss lens flare as we ride into the early morning rising sun.
