Monte Terminillo is a climb in the Apennine mountain range in central Italy about 100km away from Rome. It has been the queen-stage finish of the Tirreno-Adriatico 2 of the last 3 years, won both times by Nairo Quintana, the first time in a snowstorm in 2015. It’s an unrelenting climb rarely getting below 7% barring a brief respite half way up. Once at the top the ride continues with an out and back spin into the wilderness.
The Apennine mountains are a mountains range consisting of parallel smaller chains extending 1200 km along the length of peninsular Italy. In the northwest they join with the Ligurian Alps at Altare. In the southwest they end at Reggio di Calabria, the coastal city at the tip of the peninsula.
