Red iron oxide Gorges de Daluis canyon ride

The Gorges de Daluis is a dark red iron oxide based sandstone canyon formed by the river Var in the Alpes-Maritimes region of the French Alps. This ride will take you up stream through this canyon and then up a further more remote valley to the scenic Alpine village of Péone. Here you will do a 180° turn and return back a short distance to finish in the village of Guillaumes. Profile features two climbs with the first being fairy easy and the second being more testing at times with some grades hitting double figures.
The canyon starts off at Guillaumes, running north to south, west of the Dôme de Barrot, and ends at the small commune of Daluis, where the Var widens. The area is dominated by the Dôme de Barrot. Former copper mining operations in the Dôme are still visible from the gorge and unique mineral specimes have been found there.
