La Marmotte is the world’s most famous cyclosportive event. The route takes you over four mountains in the French Alps: the Col du Glandon, the Col du Télégraphe, the Col du Galibier and Alpe d’Huez. Take on the challenge and climb them one by one. Part 2 of La Marmotte starts with the remainder of the descent of the Col du Glandon. This is followed by a long easy valley before you make a right turn in the town of Saint-Michel-de-Maurienne and take on the wooded climb of the Col du Télégraphe (1556 m). The climb is fairly steady but does not offer many chances to rest until the top. The ride ends after descending a few kilometres into the ski resort town of Valloire. The Col du Télégraphe has a special place in the history of the Tour de France. Along with the Col des Aravis, the Galibier and the Lautaret, the mountain was part of the first Tour stage ever in the French Alps in 1911. Emile Georget crested its summit first.
