In the middle of the French Alpes, you can find one of the toughest climbs used in the Tour de France. The col de la Madeleine connects the Tarentaise Valley and the Valley of Maurienne. It is a steep and sustained climb. At 28km most riders will need at least two hours free to make the summit in a single session! One of this climbs toughest parts hits you directly at the start so try to save something for later. Just before you reach the top you ride through the ski village Saint François Longchamp which blooms in the winter and is calm in the summer. The last kilometres to the top, you ca enjoy a beautiful scenery, The same Tarentaise side of the climb we filmed some years ago for DVD.
